A while back you’ll tell me about going for a natural hair and I’ll be like ‘yaicks, it’s too hard to manage it’.
Having a relaxed hair was easy – I mean you don’t struggle to comb it or maintain it. As a matter of fact it doesn’t need much of your attention or routine. It needs just a nice relaxer, conditioner, treatment, blow dry or setting and you are so good to go. I loved how easy life was with Relaxed hair.
As much as relaxed hair is so easy to keep, it has its own limitations and negative effect if not all to most women’s hair. But how you take care it determines how healthy your hair will be.
Note: I don’t have nothing against relaxed hair. If it works for you pretty well by all means keep it relaxed.
Here are my 4 main reasons why I have chosen to have a natural hair.
- To restore my hair Volume and Body – I remember when I was in primary school saloonist used to dread plating my hair. They said it was way alot and long and so it took them tok long to finish plating leave alone braiding it. I had a huge afro. But when I relaxed it, it’s like it disappeared. I never like how little though long it became. It lost its volume and body. However much people will appreciate & tell me how beautiful my hair was, truth is I never felt it looking good as much.
- To Restore my hair line – i loved relaxing my hair but it hard completely taken my hairline way back leaving me with a big forehead that I never had in the first place. And whenever I plaited or braided my hair it made matters worse, so I stopped braiding or plaiting my hair completely so as to avoid further loss of my hair line. Since I left my hair to go natural from mid April last year I have seen tremendous change,my hairline is fully grown. That’s why I’mma keep it that way.
- For Lifestyle flexibility – if you love swimming, gyming like me or any other activity that leaves you all sweaty and wet then you know the main challenge you face with a relaxed hair. You have to wash and blow dry it as soon as you are done with the activity otherwise you risk it thinning and breaking away even when you don’t have time. It was quite cumbersome. But with natural hair, you can have a nice wash, oil and style afro with a few help of some hair pins here and there and you are good to go.
- Finally for styling versatility – relaxed hair has few styling tips due to how few hair remains on the head after relaxing. But with natural hair, you can have if not 7 then 4 different styles in a week, pure transformation. You can play with it however you want it will comply because of the high volume and body. You can strawset it, have a nice curly afro, a beautiful hair bun, blow dry it to make it straight exetra.
I love how people keep asking me if I’m wearing a wig or it’s my natural hair because of the much it has grown. Tell you what, pregnancy hormones Also contributed much in its growth🤭.
I’ll be sharing with you my natural hair journey from the struggles, challenges, to benefits, products I’m using, what works, what doesn’t work and many exotic natural hair styles.
